New Year- New Books!

So, what is your New Year Resolution?

Here is my reading goal for 2012:
  • I will read at least 212 books this year. These will be from a variety of genres and mediums.
  • My favorite way to "read" is using the old-fashioned/low tech "book" but I will also use audio books and e-books.
  • I will track my reading on Goodreads.com and on this blog
  • Since I read over 111 books last year, I hope that 212 books is attainable yet leaves a bit of a challenge.
Make your reading goal attainable, measurable and challenge yourself just a bit : HAPPY READING!

Out With A Bang (and a book)

A quick post between reading breaks to share some of the titles I have read over break. I accepted a challenge to read a book a day while away from the classroom. Of course, I accepted! This reading challenge is taking place on Twitter #bookaday if you would like to see great titles and dedicated readers. I, in-turn, challenged by students to set a reading goal and report back after break. The second challenge I shared with my students was the "Out with A Bang Read A Thon". Starting today, reading as many books as possible before the end of the year will keep me smiling, doing one of my favorite activities-READING!

We Reached our Reading Goal!

At the beginning of the school year, I challenged my reading class to read 40 books during the 2009-2010 school year. A difficult, but not impossible goal.

I challenge myself to read 75 books starting January 1st, 2010 to the end of the school year.

20 minutes a day was reserved to use as S.S.R. (sustained silent reading)
.
Students were encouraged to read from a number of different genres.
All this was kept track in a reading notebook. I also tracked mine on our class blog, listing books that may interest other readers. Additional reading time was needed to reach our goals.

This weekend was tally time... after checking notebooks, I found many students had reached either my 40 book goal or a personal goal of their own.
The most read this year was 51-way to go!
I reached my 75 book goal on May 25th! It wasn't easy
but was a lot of fun and entertaining.

Another reading challenge

In the Middle Reading Challenge. Here's "rules" for the challenge.

You must read middle grade books. These are books deemed right for kids ages 9 (sometimes 8) - 12. Harry Potter would be considered a MG book. If you look for them on Amazon you need to look under children's ages 9-12.

I'm not one to shy away from a challenge and when it involves something I LOVE, I say, "Why not?"
I have joined J. Kaye's Young Adult Novel Challenge.
Super Size Me YA Reading Challenge – Read 75 Young Adult novels--It is simple...just read 75 books (or more) in 2010. I will keep you updated on my progress, adding to this blog as the year progresses.

So, are you up to a challenge? Leave a comment telling me how many books you plan on reading this year.
Remember, your 2009-2010 school year reading goal is 40 books.

I'll be starting book 1. Maze Runner @ 12:01 January 1st, 2010
