Oelwein School District has released a new look on their web pages!
I love seeing all the pictures and reading about the activities and events happening in our district. Oelwein students and staff are doing amazing things. This new design makes it easy to find everything! Check it out...This blog will be a place we can share what we are reading and places we are exploring. I hope you have some recommendations for me and I'll share some of my favorites with you. Activities at OMS will also be found here because OMS students do amazing things!

Veterans' Day 2010
Students at OMS showed their pride and gratitude to all US Veterans and Soldiers on 11-11-10. The local Honor Guard and Veterans honored us with their presence and participated in the ceremony. Students and guests watched in silence as the flags were presented and then shared in saying the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of patriotic songs. Sixth grade chorus sang a wonderful tribute to our heroes. The program's highlight was when the veterans shared the meaning of each fold when the American flag is presented in ceremony. Thank you to all that were with us and those we remembered during this special event!

Outdoor Clean-up Day
OMS students got their hands (feet, knees,...) dirty while making a difference in their community.
All 6th through 8th graders dug deep to pick up, drag out, and sweep up the left over winter coat of debris. Groups walked the ditches, mulched and weeded the school grounds, sweep the curbs, and raked the grass throughout the Oelwein area.
Thanks goes out to Mrs. Leo for coordinating the green sweep!
