This blog will be a place we can share what we are reading and places we are exploring. I hope you have some recommendations for me and I'll share some of my favorites with you. Activities at OMS will also be found here because OMS students do amazing things!

Horrid Henry Short Stories
Just in time for some "horrid" reading, Francesca Simon has added three new easy readers to her Horrible Henry series: Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse, Horrid Henry's Underpants, and Horrid Henry and the Scary Sitter.
The reader is soon aware that Henry will do anything to get his way. Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse is a laugh out loud read that has his brother, Perfect Peter, right in the middle of mischief. Homework headaches, swimming pool sharks, creative curses, and grocery store grumbles always lands Henry on top. There is even a sneak preview to some hideout hysterics!
Horrible Henry's Underpants takes Henry's Adventures to a whole new level. In these stories, it seems Henry is faced with many roadblocks in his attempt to be, well, horrid. Every child needs to read the underpants story to remind themselves that things really can get worse!
Family and friends are spotlighted in Horrid Henry and the Scary Sitter. Parents and children can relate to the short story about a car ride. I love Henry's use of creativity and problem solving to get him to the outcome he so desires. We see Henry setting a goal and working hard to get what he wants.
The Horrid Henry series is new to me. Reading and sharing these books have reminded me that easy readers have a place in my middle school classroom. Sharing with the students prompted journal writing, discussion, and laughter. Explaining that Horrid Henry is the #2 youth series in the UK after the Harry Potter books also got their attention. The Horrid Henry books can make an impression with all age groups.
Horrid Henry series has a fun web site that I recommend. The jokes are a riot! Take time and visit: www.horridhenry.co.uk/index.asp

Wishing you some Horrid Reading!
